What is a Recount Text?

A Recount Text is a type of English text that tells a reader about past experiences or events in the order they happened. The main purpose is to inform or entertain the reader by retelling these past events. Think of it as telling a friend what you did yesterday!

Key Language Features

Past Tense

Because you are talking about the past, you must use past tense verbs (e.g., *went, saw, played, was*).

Specific Participants

The text focuses on the specific people involved in the story (e.g., *I, my family, the teacher*).

Time Connectives

Words that show the sequence of events (e.g., *First, Next, Then, Finally*).

Last Saturday, my friends and I had planned to go hiking on a local hill near our town. We woke up early and were so excited, but when we looked outside, the sky was completely grey, and it started raining heavily. Our original plan was ruined! Instead of cancelling the day, we decided to change our activity completely. First, we all gathered at my house at 10:00 AM, feeling a bit disappointed about the weather. Then, my friend Rina suggested we try an indoor escape room game downtown. It sounded like a fantastic idea! Next, we quickly ordered a taxi and drove to the mall where the escape room was located. After that, we spent an intense hour trying to solve riddles and puzzles to 'escape' the pirate ship room. It was difficult, but we worked together as a team. Finally, we managed to unlock the final door with only three minutes to spare! Even though the rain ruined our hiking plans, the indoor adventure turned out to be even more exciting. It proved that sometimes, unexpected changes can lead to the best memories. It was a truly unforgettable Saturday.
